About dark-eyed juncos (Junco hyemalis):

Dark-eyed juncos breed in forest areas throughout North America. They nest on the ground. Juncos eat seeds and insects. They are sometimes referred to as the "snowbird".

Phylum: Chordata (having a spinal chord)
Class: Aves (birds)
Order: Passiformes (perching birds)
Family: Emberizidae (American sparrows plus others with distinctive shape of beak)
