Scuds are in the order Amphipoda (amphipods). Amphipoda look like shrimp. Most are marine and freshwater. They are preyed upon by fish, marine mammals, and seabirds. They do not have a carapace.
Phylum: Arthropoda (having a segmented body with appendages on each segment)
Subphylum: Crustacea (having 3 body parts: head, thorax, and abdomen/pleon)
